Work Spaces
PopUp Shops
StartUp High Street has been created to give new British brands the opportunity of a lifetime – to get products onto the High Street by using PopUp shops. First outlet opening at Richmond, Surrey, 23 July 2012.
With the support of prominent retail entrepreneurs including Sir Charles Dunstone, Luke Johnson and Mary Portas and Richmond MP, Zac Goldsmith; Enterprise Adviser to the PM, Lord Young; StartUp Britain hopes this new concept will help invigorate the High Street and give hundreds of start-up businesses a sporting chance. Retailers will be able to open pop up shops more easily under new Government plans to reduce red tape, boosting the high street. By removing tiresome restrictions the government hope that retailers can fill some of the empty space reviving highstreets. the government plan to scrap the key barrier, a planning regulation defining what a shop can and cannot be used for, such as office space, houses or retail.
Ministers hope the deregulation will create more affordable sites and attract entrepreneurs who want to open start-up businesses and act as a launchpad for new businesses creating a more family-fun environment.
A new guide published today offers advice on how to make a town a more social experience, which is a recommendation self-styled retail guru Mary Portas made in her report to Government to help revitalise high streets. The new guide encourages town centres to remove street clutter for pedestrians, open more street stalls and pop up shops and offer attractions.
Government buildings to become spaces for StartUp businesses.
20 empty Government buildings will be the first to come on stream after the announcement earlier in the year that empty govermnet space would be made available.
18 locations across England have been identified as having the potential to be used by aspiring entrepreneurs to build and grow their businesses.
The Government is now inviting incubation and business start-up organisations, which help new and existing small businesses, to manage and allocate these spaces. These organisations will also provide businesses moving into the space with valuable support and advice.
This year the Government is running the Business in You campaign to encourage more people to start or grow their business throughout 2012 using a range of existing support services. Read more > http://www.businessinyou.bis.gov.uk.

Small Office and Studio Space
Studio working areas that can meet the demands of your business. Brighton and Hove is just one area of the UK that is currently suffering something of a shortage when it comes to this area of the office space availability league.
What to do?
However, thanks to the power of the internet and a whole new world of comparison websites, finding available studio and office rental space is now much easier than it used to be. Not only that, it can be a lot cheaper too because it effectively takes you straight to the property of offer. What’s more, there’s the added appeal of convenience because you don’t have to go traipsing around town looking at lost causes and generally wasting your time.
Where to look?
All you need to do is try one of the OFFICE GENIE space rental sites, such as Office Genie here in the UK, and it’s possible to see an entire set of listings of what’s currently available in the area. Not only that, it allows you to get a great overview of what sort of market value and rental costs are being asked, along with being able to view properties from your desktop. That way you can weed out the also-ran’s before you actually commit to going to look at a prospective candidate.
Pick your details
The added value delivered by a comparison service like this is that you can also refine the search criteria, meaning that you can hone down the options and only get results that will be suitably relevant to your business needs and requirements. So, for example, if you need studio space and have an exact idea about how many square feet that will demand, then you can specify this in the search. In fact, its’ easy to tweak just about any of the settings, so that you only get the results back that are right for your requirements.
Why bother?
There’s no doubt that going down this route can be quick and effectively allow you to find a property in minutes, rather than days or weeks. The other positive is that it will give you a breakdown of contractual or rental obligations, what sort of notice you need to give and all the rest of it. If you’re in a rush to be up and running in your studio space then going down this property search avenue can also mean you’ll be in situ in no time.
On the up
If you’re attempting to grow your business then there can be nothing more frustrating than trying to expand, but not being able to find a suitable working environment that will allow you to go on to bigger things. Thanks to the power of the internet though, those days are relatively a thing of the past, with simple searches and a packed database of available properties being only one or two mouse clicks away.
